I Weekendavisens artikel Generation 22. juli 2011 af Rene Gummer, lader han SSU´s formand Peter Hummelgaard Thomsen sige følgende udokumenteret om Snaphanen:

Ord og begreber som for eksempel ‘ cancercelle’ om et religiøst mindretal er kun beregnet på at give folk opfattelsen af, at klokken er to minutter i tolv, og vi står på tærsklen til en borgerkrig mellem kulturer. At verden er lige ved at vælte, og det er nu, der skal gøres noget.
Det er jo ikke særlig konstruktivt, men det er det, man kan læse på Snaphanen og den slags fora. Og på venstrefløjen er der mennesker, som helt seriøst mener, at vælgere, der stemmer på Dansk Folkeparti, er nazister.” Hummelgaard Thomsen kunne ikke drømme om at censurere eller begrænse muligheden for at udtrykke sine holdninger, uanset hvor rabiate de end måtte være. Han mener, at socialdemokraterne i stedet bør gå forrest ved at være gode eksempler.

Det er ikke sådan vi udtrykker os. Vi har søgt bloggen igennem for ordet ‘ cancercelle’, og det forekommer ikke én gang på over syv år. Vi har selvsagt protesteret overfor avisen. Forekommer det eventuelt i en af titusindvis af kommentarer, er det fordi vi har overset og ikke slettet det. Vi har aldrig gjort sammenligningen, vi har aldrig skrevet ordet, ikke engang i en anden sammenhæng.

Eller måske er det snarere ‘the chickens come home to roost’, for det der rammer Storbritannien er frugten af årelange synder. I en uperfekt verden vil afståelse fra enhver magtudøvelse ikke føre til det gode. Der opbygges en pris, og regningen falder nu. Dette er alt sammen ord der sættes på virkeligheden, ikke virkeligheden selv. En banal konstatering, men en skelnen med dybe og uerkendte konsekvenser, for når umoralske ord kan gøres til et større problem end den umoralske virkelighed de er møntet på er der selvfølgelig noget helt rivravruskende galt – et eller andet sted (LFPC).

PEW: Øgende sociale og religiøse spændinger i Danmark og Sverige

Europe had the largest proportion of countries in which social hostilities related to religion were on the rise from mid-2006 to mid-2009. Indeed, five of the 10 countries in the world that had a substantial increase in social hostilities were in Europe: Bulgaria, Denmark, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Det er ikke rart at se Danmark på sådan en liste, selvom vi ligger i den lave ende af spektret. Det er langt værre i England og Frankrig. I Sverige kritiseres PEW rapporten: Malmöbilden svärtas ner av forskningsinstitut.
